The composition titled "La Nenia" by Stéphane Delplace, created for wind orchestra, was given its world premiere at the Tetracordo Festival held in Isernia (Italy) on September 10, 2023, at the Cloister of Palazzo San Francesco, the city’s municipal building.
The event was solemnly dedicated to commemorating the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Isernia by Anglo-American air forces on September 10, 1943, which stands as one of the most tragic chapters in the city’s history. The creation of this composition was commissioned by the Municipality of Isernia to the Nuova Accademia di Jazz il Tetracordo.
The esteemed commission was entrusted to French composer Stéphane Delplace with the explicit purpose of crafting a musical work to commemorate the dramatic events of that fateful day. "La Nenia" thus serves as a musical and artistic tribute to the memory of those who experienced the devastating effects of that tragic event.
It is therefore established that this piece may be performed annually during this solemn commemoration, thus contributing to the preservation of historical memory.
