The 12th edition of the Tetracordo Jazz Academy will be dedicated to the great tradition and legacy of vocal jazz and will be led by acclaimed jazz vocalist Yaala Ballin. The three-day workshop welcomes instrumentalists and singers of all levels to explore jazz harmony, improvisation and repertoire through the vocal tradition.

Yaala Balin

Yaala Ballin is a New York-based jazz vocalist known for her soulful storytelling and deep connection to the tradition of legends like Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan. Her performances—ranging from intimate duos with pianist Michael Kanan to quartets, chamber ensembles, and big bands—showcase her lyrical improvisation and rhythmic freedom. An international artist, she has performed across Europe, the Middle East, and the U.S., including tours sponsored by the U.S. State Department. Also a dedicated educator, Yaala carries forward the vocal jazz tradition through teaching and mentorship.

Explore the nuances of jazz standards, focusing on harmonic analysis and interpretive techniques.

Improvisation, Jazz Harmony, and Ensemble Repertoire Development
Engage in improvisational practices and collaborative learning of new pieces within an ensemble setting.

Open Jam Session with the Tetracordo Ensemble, featuring workshop participants.
